Anna Nirmala

Vice President, Portfolio Success

Anna is part of the Portfolio Success team, serving as a strategic partner to grantees as they maximize their growth and performance. Part of the American Journalism Project’s founding team, Anna initially served as director of Portfolio Development, developing and leading the organization’s grantmaking efforts, which she continues to help manage.

Previously she oversaw business development at Hearken, a groundbreaking woman-owned company that creates innovative engagement processes to help its more than 200 newsroom partners around the world leverage their networks to accelerate growth. Anna was previously a management consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, focusing on strategy and operations for executive leadership teams at Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit organizations and small businesses.

Anna is based in New York. She serves on the founding board of the Chronicle of Philanthropy. 

Anna serves as a Success Partner to Block Club Chicago, Centro de Periodismo Investigativo, Documented, El Paso Matters, Mississippi Today, Nevada Independent, Spotlight PA, Underscore, Verite, VTDigger, WFAE.

Success Partners provide close support to grantees over the course of their grant and serve as their advisor and main liaison to the American Journalism Project.
