Natalie Choate

Natalie works with nonprofit newsroom leaders nationwide to build resilient operations, expand their local reach, and strengthen the long-term impact of the American Journalism Project’s support. She specializes in growth strategy, transformation and launching high-impact initiatives.
Previously, Natalie was chief operating officer at The Texas Tribune, where she led strategy, local expansion and operations. Over 14 years, she held multiple leadership roles and helped shape the Tribune into a national model for nonprofit news, including founding its first local newsroom in Waco. She also brings experience from the public sector.
Natalie holds a degree in government with a certificate in ethics and leadership from The University of Texas at Austin and is pursuing her MBA at SMU Cox. She owns two small businesses, including Plateau Brewing Co., a community brewery she co-founded in San Angelo.
