Amar leads the American Journalism Project’s operations team, which includes budgeting, financial strategy, human resources, and technology.

He has spent most of his career working in early-childhood education, having worked as a preschool teacher, program director, network leader, and policymaker at the systems level. Most recently, Amar played a key role in expanding pre-K access in New York City. At the NYC Department of Education, he led a team of 60 supporting a portfolio of 1,000 early-childhood contracted providers with a total annual budget of $1 billion.

Amar holds an MPA from CUNY Baruch College, where he also teaches statistics. A born-and-raised New Yorker, Amar lives in Queens with his wife, Courtney, and their two daughters.
