Amar leads the American Journalism Project’s operations team, which includes budgeting, financial strategy, human resources and technology.
He has spent most of his career working in early childhood education, having worked as a preschool teacher, program director, network leader and policymaker at the systems level. Most recently, Amar played a key role in expanding pre-K access in New York City. At the NYC Department of Education, he led a team of 60 supporting a portfolio of 1,000 early-childhood contracted providers with a total annual budget of $1 billion.
Amar holds an MPA from CUNY Baruch College, where he also occasionally teaches graduate-level courses in data analysis and financial management. A born-and-raised New Yorker, Amar lives in Queens with his wife, Courtney, and their two daughters.
Amar serves on the boards of Mountain State Spotlight and Nonprofit New York.
