American Journalism Project at Tribfest 2022!

Thank you for joining the American Journalism Project in Austin, TX as we attend the annual Texas Tribune Festival. To help with your planning, we wanted to provide the following information:

 

Schedule of American Journalism Project-related events

Friday, Sept. 23
  • 3 p.m. CT: AJP in the Afternoon, a gathering of our local philanthropy and startup projects partners at the Josephine House (1601 Waterston, Austin 78703) 
  • 5:30 p.m. CT: TribFeast gala, cocktails followed by celebration dinner & conversation with Woodward and Bernstein at Distribution Hall (1500 E 4th St, Austin, TX 78702)
    • While the two-hour cocktail reception will start at 5:30 p.m., it will be outside (where it’s hot!), so please feel free to show up at 6:30 p.m. or later
Saturday, Sept. 24
  • For anyone staying in Austin into the weekend to enjoy TribFest, many of our American Journalism Project sponsored grantee sessions will be held on Saturday (see schedule below)
  • Tribfest will also feature Open Congress, a free event taking place along Austin’s iconic Congress Avenue on Saturday. Open Congress brings TribFest to downtown Austin’s main thoroughfare for all to enjoy.

 

Friday transportation

The American Journalism Project will provide complimentary shuttle service for our guests on the afternoon of Friday, September 23 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT between the following three locations:

Shuttle service will start at the Omni Hotel at 2:30 p.m. CT. The shuttle will initially run between the hotel and Josephine House, and will add Distribution Hall to its route after AJP in the Afternoon ends. Shuttle service will end at 6:30 p.m., allowing guests to stay at Tribfeast for as long as they’d like.

To access the shuttle, please look for the black van with American Journalism Project signage in its window.

 

Dress code

Austin weather can be unpredictable in September, but it is usually warm. Inside can be chilly, so a light layer is also recommended.

If you’re attending the gala, TribFeast organizers recommend celebratory attire (casual cocktail). Guests are welcome to wear their Tribfeast attire for the “AJP in the Afternoon” gathering; otherwise, we recommend wearing business casual to this event.

 

Tribfest tickets

As our guests, you have complimentary TribFest passes for the broader schedule of events (this pass is not needed for the gala or “AJP in the Afternoon”). If you’d like tickets, you can either:

  • Click here to register online for your complimentary pass, using the code JThorntonGA in the promo code box (located at the bottom of the registration widget) then click the Apply button. It’s important that you select General Admission as your selected ticket tier. 
  • Or go directly to the Festival hub (located at the downtown Omni Hotel, 701 Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701) beginning on September 22nd and head to Guest Services to be registered.
